MCT OIL BENEFITS AND WHY WE USE IT IN OUR FEEL GOOD CBD OILS

To celebrate our hero range of CBD products we’re letting you in on our best-kept secrets to the CBII formula.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be shedding light on our superstar ingredients that support your body and mind. From ginseng or turmeric in our CBD capsules to the carrier oil in our feel good oils, you’ll get the inside track on the benefits of our premium quality CBD supplements. So, what is MCT oil? We'll cover that and more below.

Secrets of MCT Oil

We’ve included MCT Oil as a carrier oil in our hero range of CBD oils, so let’s dive in and get the lowdown on all things MCT.

What is MCT Oil?

What's MCT oil? MCT, meaning “Medium-Chain Triglycerides,” are fats found in oils like coconut and palm oils. MCT oil is a supplement containing high quantities of these medium-chain triglycerides. MCT oil is believed to have several health benefits and is frequently used by athletes and people on ketogenic (keto) diets.

Is Coconut Oil an MCT?

Coconut oil comes from a coconut: MCT oil is a refined concentration of 100% Medium-Chain Triglycerides. Coconut oil is a good source of MCTs but also contains other substances. MCT oil is often made from coconut oil.

Coconut VS MCT Oil

When comparing coconut oil vs. MCT oil, remember that:

* coconut oil, keto dieters’ favourite supplement, is made up of medium and long-chain fatty acids and is extracted from a coconut.

* MCT oil, used frequently for weight loss and increased energy, consists entirely of medium-chain fatty acids and must be distilled and purified.

What is MCT Oil Made of?

MCT oil is extracted from coconut or palm kernel oil through a process called fractionation. The fractionation process separates the MCT from the original oil and concentrates oil molecules with trailing tail chains of between 6 and 12 carbon atoms.

Types of MCT

There are four different types of MCT, which are separated by the lengths of their tails. These differences in tail length give each different MCT oil benefits and special advantages in dealing with different issues.

C6 Caproic Acid

Caproic acid is the shortest of the MCTs, with just six carbon atoms in its trail. Caproic acid metabolises very quickly, but its MCT oil benefits are outweighed by its unpleasant taste and smell. Caproic acid is typically removed when refining MCT oils.

C8 Caprylic Acid

Caprylic acid (also known as octanoic acid or C8) is a refined coconut oil made by the brand Bulletproof. Bulletproof oil consists of 100 per cent octanoic acid, a fatty acid with 8 carbon atoms that falls into the category of medium-chain triglycerides or MCTs. C8 is highly regarded for its ketogenic MCT benefits.

C10 Capric Acid

Capric acid, also known as C10, is refined from coconut oil, palm kernel oil, goat’s milk, and animal fats like tallow. The primary MCT oil benefits of capric acid are its powerful anti-yeast and antifungal properties.

C12 Lauric Acid

C12, or lauric acid, makes up about 48% of the fat in coconut oil and is responsible for many of the health benefits of MCT oil. C12 is a powerful antibacterial agent that your body converts into monolaurin, a potent compound that kills pathogens like measles, herpes simplex, Staph, and E coli.

Which MCT Oil is Better?

The MCT oils are all good for certain things, so which is best for you depends on what you need.

C8 and C10 have the widest range of MCT oil benefits overall, while C8 is the easiest MCT oil for the body to break down and absorb.

What is MCT Oil Good For?

MCT has become popular thanks largely to its many purported healing properties, and several studies have found evidence of a number of MCT oil health benefits. While there still needs to be more research done on the health benefits of MCT oil, here are some reported MCT oil benefits.

Fat & Nutrient Absorption

MCT molecules are smaller than those in most of the fats you eat, and this makes them easier to digest as they can pass to your liver without first being broken down by bile or stomach enzymes. One of many MCT oil benefits is its ability to dissolve fat-soluble nutrients and cannabinoid compounds for faster absorption.

Weight Loss

"Dieters have long praised the benefits of MCT oil for weight loss. And a study indicates that MCT promotes the release of peptide YY and leptin, two hormones known to promote a feeling of fullness.

MCT also seems to increase thermogenesis, the process your body uses to burn fat for energy. "

Energy

"Because your body can absorb MCTs faster, they enter your cells easily where they can be processed into an immediate source of energy without being broken down.

MCT oil health benefits extend to your nervous system, as MCTs are converted into ketones like beta-hydroxybutyrate that your brain uses for energy.

There is some evidence that MCT increases the amount of energy used by your muscles, and that MCTs increase fat burning and reduce the need for carbs during exercise. "

Inflammation

One of the most well-known benefits of MCT oil is its anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation can lead to chronic pain and other health conditions. A 2019 study found that taking MCT oil led to down-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and elevated levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines.
Heart Health

Heart Health

High levels of HDL (“bad”) cholesterol have been linked to various types of heart disease. MCT oil can lower bad cholesterol while increasing LDL (“good”) cholesterol levels.

But that’s just one of the heart health benefits of MCT oil. Obesity is linked to many heart issues. MCT oil helps you lose weight, and maintaining an appropriate body weight is one of the best things you can do for your heart.

KETO Friendly

If you are following a keto diet, taking an MCT keto oil can help keep your body in a fat-burning state of ketosis.

MCT can help your body make more ketones than the LCT oils found in many fats. And because it increases thermogenesis, you may even be able to eat more carbohydrates without falling out of ketosis. MCT oil is one of the most popular keto oils for good reason.

Contains Fatty Acids that Fight Yeast & Bacterial Growth

Studies have shown the powerful antimicrobial and antifungal benefits of MCT oil against common pathogens like Candida albicans and Clostridium difficile. The MCTs suppress the growth and spread of bacteria and fungi. And MCTs have been shown to reduce the growth of fungi by as much as 50%.

Could Manage Blood Sugar

MCT has been linked to reduced fat storage and increased fat burning. A 2019 study suggests MCT oil can increase insulin sensitivity and help with managing blood sugar issues. MCT oil health benefits are not a substitute for appropriate medical treatment, but may be useful as part of a complete blood sugar management plan.

How MCT Is Broken Down in the Body

MCTs travel from the gut straight to the liver without the need for bile to break down like longer-chain fats would. Since they easily enter your cells this way, they're used as an immediate source of energy. This is why MCT oil and MCT-rich coconut oil are so popular with keto dieters and with athletes who want carbohydrate-free energy.

Side Effects of MCT Oil

While most people can consume MCT oil without any stomach upset, a small percentage of people may experience MCT oil side effects. Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea are rare complications of an MCT oil dose.

When you start taking MCT oil, start small to see how your body reacts and cut your dosage back if it begins causing discomfort.

What Is Mct Oil Used For?

If you are unsure of how to take MCT oil, there are a number of ways and many MCT oil uses.

Because it is tasteless and odourless, adding MCT oil to your food, skincare, coffee, and more is easy.

Skincare

MCT has antimicrobial and antifungal properties that can keep your skin clear and clean. MCT oil benefits your skin as it is a non-greasy, easily absorbed natural emollient that leaves you with silky-smooth skin.

MCT is an excellent moisturizer you can use after a shower, and it also can be used in bath bombs and foot soaks.

Baking

You can use MCT oil in place of vegetable, avocado, coconut, or olive oil when baking. MCT oil is flavourless and odourless, and it does not become rancid or degrade quickly. Drizzle it atop what you are baking for MCT oil benefits. But since MCT oil has a low burning point, you may not want to use it in a very hot oven.

Coffee

If you regularly start your morning with coffee, adding 1-2 tablespoons of MCT oil can give your morning and your brain an extra boost. There are no added carbs, fat or flavour in your coffee, and MCT oil benefits your brain with a ketone charge to get your day started.

Start slow and increase your dosage as you become accustomed to the mouth feel and cognitive effects.

CBD Products

Using MCT oil for CBT products increases their bioavailability and prevents the cannabidiol from being broken down in your digestive tract. The essential fatty acids provide all the MCT oil benefits and help ensure you get the most benefit from the calming effects of CBD.

Smoothies

You can mix MCT oil with your smoothie ingredients for a tasty dose of MCT benefits. It’s hard to get coconut oil in your smoothies without having it solidify. MCT oil is liquid at room temperature, and that makes it much easier to use in smoothies.

What's the RIght Dose?

The best way to find the right dose of coconut MCT oil is to start with a low dose and increase it slowly. A good starting dose is 15-20mg per meal, but not more than 50ml per day. You can increase your doses from there up to as much as 100ml per day.
