What is CBD? The Basics

If you’re new to CBD and only just discovering it’s many uses for optimising health and wellness in a holistic way, you’re probably looking for a little clarity on where it comes from, whether it’s safe to use, and what exactly this health hero is.

To help you choose CBD with confidence, we’re exploring the basics of CBD in our in-depth FAQs.

CBII CBD Oils FAQ

What is CBD (Cannabidiol)

CBD stands for cannabidiol and is a naturally occurring compound that’s found in larger amounts in the Cannabis sativa L. species or hemp plant. For thousands of years, it’s been sought after for its natural herbal properties and benefits for holistic wellness. These days, it can be found in everything from CBD oil drops, capsules and topicals, to teas, gummies and skincare.

What part of the plant does CBD come from?

CBD is extracted from the Cannabis sativa L. plant. Unlike many other CBD brands, CBII only uses the areal parts of the plant (meaning the flowering head or those parts of the plant that are exposed to air) and uses a trademarked clean and gentle ethanol extraction method to ensure that the CBD content and quality is consistent every time.

What are Terpenes?

Terpenes or terpenoids are widely present in many plants and flowers, including all cannabis variations. It is these natural compounds that are responsible for giving each strain of CBD or cannabis its distinct scent and natural aroma.

Does CBD oil get you high?

No, CBD as a compound has been shown to be non-psychoactive. Unlike Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main compound in marijuana, CBD itself has no impact on cognitive function and does not cause any psychoactive effects so you can take it with ease.
